The highlight of our quilt 'Circle of Hope' is the centre medallion and its blue border of flying geese. This pieced centre has appliqued and stitchery hearts, surrounding the words 'Hope'. The quilt top is bordered firstly by a pink and cream stripe and finally a large pink and cream floral border.

It is 150 years since the American Civil War began and the Liberty Star quilt commemorates this war. The Star is for the Freedom from slavery that came after the war and the peace to a nation.
The half square triangle border is for the soldiers who marched and fought in the war. The brown colour of the border is for the slaves and the turmoil they endured.
The star in the top corner (blue) is for the Union troops of the north and the bottom star (red) is for the Confederates troops of the south.
